Odisha Elections 2024: Nomination Process Begins, Parties Yet to Finalize Candidates

The process of filing nominations for the first phase of voting in the state has kicked off from Thursday. However, the three major parties in the state are yet to announce all their candidates. The nomination process for a total of 63 assembly seats in the first and second phases will commence on April 18 and April 26 respectively.

As of now, the BJD has not disclosed its candidates for a maximum of six assembly seats. Congress has not declared candidates for two seats, and BJP is yet to announce a candidate for one seat.

Here’s when the nomination process for the first and second phases will take place in Odisha. These constituencies include both Lok Sabha and Assembly segments.

The nomination process for voting in the first phase in Odisha began today. The filing of nominations for a total of 63 assembly seats in the first and second phases will start on April 18 and April 26 respectively.

BJD and BJP have not revealed any candidate for the Jaipur seat yet, where polling will take place in the first phase. All candidates have been announced for the second phase.

The nomination process for the four-phase elections in the state will begin on April 18. Under this, the filing of nominations for four Lok Sabha seats and 28 assembly seats will continue from April 18 to April 25.

Similarly, the nomination process for five Lok Sabha seats and 35 assembly seats in the second phase will start from April 26 and continue until May 3. BJD has announced its candidates for 117 out of a total of 147 seats so far, BJP has announced for 131, and Congress for 111 seats.

Out of the 28 assembly seats where polling will be held in the first phase, BJD has not yet announced its candidates for Jaipur and Chitrakonda.

For the second phase, BJD has not announced the names of its candidates for Sanakhemundi, Kantabanji, Raghunathpalli, and Padmapur seats. BJD has not yet finalized the names of candidates for a total of 30 seats in these two phases.

Parties have not announced candidates for so many seats BJP has not announced its candidate for the Jaipur assembly seat where polling will take place in the first phase. All candidates have been announced for the second phase.

Congress has not yet finalized the names of candidates for the Chhatrapur and Gopalpur seats in the first phase and for the Daspalla seat in the second phase. It is noteworthy that BJD has not yet finalized the names of candidates for 30 seats, while BJP has not announced for 16, and Congress for 36 seats.

Both BJP and BJD have finalized the names of all their 21 Lok Sabha candidates, while Congress has not yet finalized the name of its candidate for the Aska Lok Sabha seat, where elections will be held in the second phase, along with the Sambalpur and Cuttack seats in the third phase and the Mayurbhanj parliamentary seat in the last phase.
