Freedom Fighter Nilamani Samal Passes Away at 101

Freedom fighter Nilamani Samal breathed his last while receiving treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital on Saturday.

Born on February 23, 1923, Samal actively participated in the Quit India Movement in 1942, dedicating himself to the cause of India’s independence. His unwavering commitment led to a three-year imprisonment by the British colonial authorities during the freedom struggle.

Expressing deep sorrow over the demise, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik remarked, “Samal’s sacrifice for the freedom movement will be eternally remembered. His selfless service to mankind and unwavering patriotism will serve as a perpetual inspiration for the youth of our nation.” The chief minister announced that the last rites of the late freedom fighter will be conducted with full state honors.

Nilamani Samal’s legacy as a stalwart in the fight for India’s independence will forever be imprinted in the annals of history, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who value the principles of freedom and sacrifice.
