Odisha Speeds Up Land Acquisition for Talcher-Bimalagarh Rail Line

More than two decades after its initial sanction, the Talcher‑Bimalagarh new broad‑gauge railway line is still waiting on a final stretch of land before it can be completed, and the Odisha government moved on Friday to speed that process up. The review meeting to accelerate land acquisition was held in Bhubaneswar on Friday, as reported on August 22, 2026.

What is the current status of land acquisition? Of the 2,144.028 acres required for the project, 1,868.357 acres have been acquired so far, leaving 275.671 acres still pending. This pending portion comprises 202.15 acres of private land, 13.7 acres of forest land and 59.821 acres of government land. The figures were presented at a review meeting chaired by Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhi, held on Friday at Loka Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar. Besides Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhi, the meeting was attended by Railway Coordination Commissioner Kaustuv Dipta Pani, Deogarh District Collector Kabindra Kumar Sahu, Presiding Officer Abhijit Palei and other senior officials.
