Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik virtually laid the foundation stone for 19 in-stream storage structures in 13 districts. The estimated cost of this ambitious project is Rs 4,600 crore.

The targeted districts include Bargarh, Balangir, Boudh, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Khurda, Puri, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, and Sundargarh.

Addressing farmers at their respective district headquarters, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik highlighted the government’s commitment to the prosperity of farmers. He emphasized that the state’s overall well-being is intricately linked to the success of its farmers. Patnaik assured the farming community that the government would continue to implement measures for their betterment.

The in-stream storage project, initiated in 2020 with a total outlay of Rs 11,700 crore, has progressed through three phases, with 72 storage structures in the pipeline so far.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik underscored the significance of these projects for sustainable development. The storage structures are expected to bring substantial benefits to farmers, aid in flood control, address drinking water demands, support fish farming and animal husbandry, and positively impact the environment by maintaining groundwater levels.

The inter-river wetland project is a crucial component of the government’s 5T initiative. Project selection is based on public opinion and participation, with proposals received from citizens during the visit of 5T chairman VK Pandian to various districts.

Emphasizing the use of technology and timely project completion, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik assured that no displacement of people would occur due to these initiatives.

VK Pandian, expressing gratitude for continuous public support, highlighted Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s efforts during a visit to Japan for the ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel project in Kendrapara. The groundbreaking ceremony for this project is expected to take place soon.

The welcome address was delivered by Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg.
