Odisha Government Declares three days School Closure Due to Heat Wave

by Nita Mishra

Odisha Government has made the decision to close schools for three days due to the prevailing heat wave conditions across the state. This announcement, conveyed by news agency PTI, states that schools will be closed from April 18 to April 20. All schools, including government, government-aided, and private institutions, will remain shut during this period. Students and parents are advised to stay updated with their respective school authorities for any changes regarding the reopening dates.

This decision comes in response to the increasing day temperatures and heat wave conditions experienced across Odisha. Many guardians had been requesting school closures as the extreme heat and humidity were making it difficult for children to travel back home after school hours.

The weather forecast department predicts a gradual rise in temperature by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next two days. Some places in Odisha are expected to witness temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius from April 18 to April 20. Baripada town in Mayurbhanj district recorded the highest temperature in the country on April 16, reaching 43.6 degrees Celsius, as shared by weather scientist Umashankar Das.

Heat wave conditions are expected in various districts

According to the IMD Bhubaneswar, heat wave conditions are expected in various districts including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khudra, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Angul, and Boudh on April 17. Additionally, hot and humid weather is anticipated in select places across Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts.
