Bhubaneswar: The body of a woman attendant was found hanging at the quarters of Dharambandha Hospital in Nuapada district, triggering widespread discussion.
The deceased, a resident of the Dharambandha police station area, had been working as an attendant at the hospital for about one-and-a-half years. Preliminary accounts suggest she may have taken the extreme step due to issues in a personal relationship.
As per reports, she was reportedly in a relationship with a young man employed as a security guard at the same hospital. After their relationship came to limelight, the guard was transferred to Khariar Road. On Friday night, an argument broke out between the two. Following the quarrel, the young man left the hospital premises.
The woman is said to have informed him over the phone that she would end her life. When he reached the spot, she was found hanging. He attempted to save her but was unsuccessful.
Upon being informed, Dharambandha police seized the body and detained the young man at the police station for further questioning. The exact reason behind the incident is yet to be clearly established. A scientific team has reached the location for a detailed investigation.
Meanwhile, family members of the deceased attendants have also arrived at the spot.
Local residents expressed shock over the incident, with many gathering near the hospital quarters to seek clarity. One neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, said, "She was always quiet and dedicated to her work. Nobody expected something like this to happen." Another local, a shopkeeper from Dharambandha, added, "The transfer of the guard after their relationship became known caused a lot of talk in the area. People were worried it might lead to trouble."
Hospital authorities, when contacted, declined to comment on the matter, citing the ongoing police investigation. A senior official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, "We are cooperating fully with the authorities and awaiting the findings of the scientific team."
The police have confirmed that the detained security guard is being questioned as part of standard procedure, and no formal charges have been filed at this stage. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
