Odisha Revenue Dept Orders Strict Land Registration Vigil After Nuapada Fraud

Dr Padhee has instructed all Collectors to ensure regular monitoring and surprise inspections of registration offices by Additional District Magistrates (ADMs) and District Registrars. The aim is to detect and prevent irregularities in real time. The department reiterated that no form of misconduct will be tolerated, and offenders will face strict action. Officials said the state government’s priority is to ensure transparency, technological efficiency, and rule compliance at every stage of the registration process. Dr Padhee further noted that leveraging digital tools will help create an auditable trail, reduce scope for manipulation, and build public confidence in land records. Collectors have been directed to submit weekly compliance reports to the Revenue and Disaster Management Division, highlighting any deviations observed during inspections. The directive also calls for training sessions for registration staff on the use of the new technology‑driven platforms, ensuring that all functionaries are conversant with the procedures designed to curb forgery. By integrating real‑time monitoring mechanisms, the government seeks to close loopholes that enabled the Nuapada fraud, thereby safeguarding citizens’ property rights and upholding the integrity of the land administration system.
