Balangir: Ranipur-Jharial, Pataneswari & the Patna Legacy
Balangir — the old Patna princely capital — is a Kosali cultural hub anchored by the 64 Yogini temple at Ranipur-Jharial and the Pataneswari Shakti Pitha.

Once the capital of the princely state of Patna, Balangir today is celebrated as the Cultural Hub of Western Odisha, particularly for Kosali folk art, dance and Sambalpuri weaving.
Top Places to Visit
- Ranipur-Jharial — a rare hypaethral (roofless) temple to the 64 Yoginis, one of only a handful in India, alongside the Someswar Shiva temple.

Culture & Crafts
Balangir is renowned for Kosali folk art and dance and is one of the core weaving districts for Sambalpuri cotton and silk textiles. Its royal history is visible in Chalukyan-style temple architecture at Pataneswari and the 12th-century Someswar shrine.
