Balangir, July 16 – The arrival of trains at Balangir railway station is poised to become a more aesthetic and convenient experience following a comprehensive redevelopment project, slated for unveiling by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 17th. The station, a key transport hub for Western Odisha and a site of considerable historical importance – having served as the former Patna princely capital and a vibrant Kosali cultural center – has undergone a staggering transformation, costing approximately ₹20 crore under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Beyond the artistic additions, the station has received a substantial infrastructural overhaul. The station building itself has been entirely reimagined, while a 12-meter-wide foot over bridge equipped with a lift ensures barrier-free access, catering to all passengers. Widened approach roads have been constructed to streamline vehicular movement, alleviating congestion and facilitating smoother access to the station. The redevelopment of Balangir railway station represents one element of a wider initiative across Odisha. Fifty-nine railway stations within the state are undergoing similar transformations as part of the Amrit Bharat Scheme, a national program focused on modernizing India’s railway infrastructure.
