Man Dies Weeks After Wife Allegedly Hits Him with Cell Phone During Domestic Dispute

BALANGIR, July 13 (Orissa POST) — A 32-year-old man died at a private hospital here on Sunday, weeks after he was allegedly struck on the head with a mobile phone by his wife during a domestic dispute, police said on Monday.

The deceased, Swapneswar Mishra, a resident of Chiminibhati Pada in Balangir town, was injured during an argument with his wife on June 21, according to a complaint lodged by his father at Laxmijore Police Station.

In the complaint, Mishra’s father alleged that his daughter-in-law hit Swapneswar on the head with a cell phone during the altercation, causing serious head injuries. He was first rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Balangir for emergency treatment and later referred to a private hospital in the city for specialized care.

Despite weeks of medical intervention, Swapneswar succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, July 12. His father, in his formal complaint, held his daughter-in-law directly responsible for his son’s death and demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances leading to the fatal injury.

Laxmijore Police Station officials confirmed that a case has been registered based on the father’s complaint and that the matter is under active investigation. Police said they are examining medical records, witness statements, and the sequence of events to determine the exact cause of death and any criminal liability.

The incident has drawn attention in the local community, though no further details about the couple’s background or prior disputes were disclosed by authorities. Police have not yet made any arrests but stated that the investigation is proceeding on all angles.
