Odisha Heatwave Alert: IMD Predicts Intense Heat Till April 16

India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting intense heatwaves until April 16. According to IMD, temperatures are expected to soar up to 40 degrees Celsius in various parts of the state. Additionally, from April 17 onwards, cities like Balangir, Sambalpur, Titlagarh, Jharsuguda, and Sonpur could experience even hotter conditions, with temperatures reaching 43 degrees Celsius.

Heatwaves are declared when the maximum temperature rises above 40 degrees Celsius, with a deviation of over 4.5 degrees Celsius from the normal range, as explained in IMD’s Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on heatwaves.

IMD scientist Umashankar Das has issued a ‘Yellow’ alert for hot and humid weather in Odisha. “We anticipate a rise of 6-8 degrees Celsius in the maximum day temperatures across Odisha in the coming days,” Das stated.
